But Spirit chose what appears foolish in the world to disgrace those who seem wise... chose what appears weak in the world to disgrace those who seem strong.

Suzuki Roshi said to me ... , "You're like a rock, a big rock on the path. People don't know what you do, but if they're tired they'll sit on you, and that provides a nice rest for them. Don't paint the rock."
*David Chadwick. Ed. Zen Is Right Here: Teaching Stories and Anecdotes of Shunryu Suzuki.

Our service in this world need not be obvious
We do not need to appear exceptional or righteous
The Way is not impressive, holy or unholy
The Way does not draw attention to itself
Those in the Way often do not seem practical or efficient
The Way is like a bare rock -
nothing remarkable that is why it is so remarkable
not intending to help it is available to all who need it
